The annual Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27) will take place from 06 November 2022 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

UN CC:Learn organizes and supports the following activities:

Climate Classroom

The Climate Classroom @COP27 is an innovative learning experience designed to help those attending get quickly up-to-speed on key climate issues. Throughout COP27, our team of experts will deliver free online and in-person 45-minute classes that expose and introduce learners to a range of climate change topics – allowing delegates, professionals, and other interested parties to follow and contribute to climate discussions.

Accelerating the circular economy agenda to tackle climate change and foster economic transformation

There is an urgency to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. The side event will discuss how to accelerate the global circular economy agenda and the shift to a green economy through ambitious mitigation and adaptation actions.

Speakers: Mr. Gerd Müller, Director General, United Nations Industrial Development Organization Ms. Olga Algayerova, Exacutive Secretary, UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Representatives of governments, private sector, think tanks and youth.

Brown Bag Lunch Workshop: Integrating Displaced Populations into NDCs – Closed-door event

Friday, 11 November 2022, 12:15 – 13:30 EET – SDG7 Pavilion 

The session will be a closed peer-to-peer exchange with government stakeholders, UN experts, and leading NDC organizations. These stakeholders will discuss including displaced people and energy policy targets in the NDCs and combining climate action with humanitarian settings and disaster risk.

This session brings relevant stakeholders to discuss the main issues, needs and opportunities to include displaced populations in future NDCs and energy policies.

Scaling up innovative finance and solutions for accelerated adaptation in LDCs, SIDS and Africa

Friday, 11 November 2022, 13:15 – 14:45 EET – Hatshepsut (300)

Building on the collaboration between UN organizations, the session shares experiences and good practices on comprehensive risk management, innovative financing and space-based solutions to accelerate adaptation action, and to take climate talks from policy to action and results.

Speakers: High level official/Minister from a SIDS and one from an annex 1, local government representative from a LDC, private sector financier and representatives from UN led initiatives.

From Humanitarian Relief to Climate Resilience: Realising a Critical Shift in Humanitarian Energy Access

Monday, 14 November 2022, 19:15 – 20:30 EET – SDG Pavilion

This session will invite participants to change the humanitarian energy access space by providing expert insights on inclusive data, systemic change in the UN, and inclusive investments.

It will mainly focus on the context of displacement communities; how to ensure they are considered and prioritized, and how the inclusion of affected communities in humanitarian energy activities highlights the ‘leave-no-one-behind’ principles.

Voices of Displaced Youth: Climate Action through Sustainable Energy

Wednesday, 16 November 2022, 12:35 – 13:25 EET – Children and Youth Pavilion

This interactive session will focus on energy access in displacement settings and climate change from a youth-centred perspective. It will look at what climate change means for displaced communities and how energy can help with mitigation and adaptation.

The session will begin with a video of a few displaced people describing how climate change affects them and what energy initiatives or solutions they want UN member states to push for. After the video, there will be two 5-minute Ted Talk-style presentations with audience discussion.

Achieving Carbon Neutrality: UN Actions on Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency

Wednesday, 17 November 2022, 16:15 – 17:30 EET – SDG Pavilion

The session will bring together major UN entities and their partners to discuss fossil fuel dependency and energy efficiency. The discussions will also highlight how private sector investments in UN energy infrastructure are needed to achieve sector goals.

During this side event, the 20m USD Multi-Partner Trust Fund will be launched to decarbonize energy infrastructure in humanitarian contexts and other fragile settings by installing energy-efficient appliances and renewable energy systems using innovative PPP models.

Your climate story tells your personal experience with climate change. Sharing it with others will help them understand how climate change is happening and what can be done to tackle it. Furthermore, you will inspire people across the world to take the lead and contribute to a positive transformation toward a more climate-resilient society.
