This technical document gathers new knowledge about the potential of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered shipping in the North American Emission Control Area and identify the necessary conditions for the successful implementation of LNG as a fuel source for shipping in the region. It introduces the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, as the main international convention covering prevention of operational or accidental pollution of the marine environment by ships.
