Collaboration between UNITAR, as the Secretariat of UN CC:Learn, and Tongji University began in 2016 with the promotion of climate change learning, as the two institutes joined forces to develop the Mandarin Chinese version of the Introductory e-Course on Climate Change.

On 6 March 2018, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Mr. Nikhil Seth, visited Tongji University and signed a Cooperation Agreement, to collaboratively conduct in-depth research and training including study visits, e-learning and workshops.

Collaboration between UNITAR, as the Secretariat of UN CC:Learn, and Tongji University began in 2016 with the promotion of climate change learning, as the two institutes joined forces to develop the Mandarin Chinese version of the Introductory e-Course on Climate Change. This course is available on the UN CC:e-Learn platform, which currently gathers more than 130,000 registered participants from all over the world.

The course was launched as a public and worldwide learning tool, and was also introduced in Tongji University’s Minor Programme in Sustainable Development curricula.

This course is also highlighted on Earth Academy, developed by Friend of the Earth.This free and self-paced resource allows participants to master the basics of climate change and gain a UN certificate upon completion.

The e-course is structured in six modules:

  1. Climate Change Science
  2. International Legal and Policy Framework for Climate Change
  3. Climate Change Adaptation
  4. Climate Change Mitigation and Low Carbon Development
  5. Climate Change Finance
  6. Climate Change Governance and Planning
