Last week, UN CC:Learn piloted a new format for its learning offer with The Debrief: Decoding COP30, a paid webinar initiative designed for professionals who wanted an in-depth understanding of what happened during COP30. Across two identical sessions held on 2 and 4 December 2025, a total of 78 participants joined from around the world.

The Debrief was conceived as a focused space to unpack the outcomes of COP30 soon after the negotiations concluded. Over 90 minutes, participants were guided through the background and context of the conference, an overview of the main decisions, and a forward-looking discussion on what these outcomes mean for implementation in the lead-up to SB64, COP31, and beyond. The sessions combined a structured presentation, space for questions, and access to key reference documents, filling a critical gap for those who could not attend COP30 in person or wanted expert insights into the conference’s primary outcomes.

Both sessions were delivered by Dr. Marcelo Rocha, a senior advisor to the Brazilian delegation with long-standing experience in climate negotiations, having participated in the negotiations related to different climate agreements. Drawing on his direct involvement in the conference, Dr. Rocha shared insights on mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, and political dynamics, while also reflecting on the new initiatives launched at COP30 and how they might shape future action. Participants received a session recording, additional learning resources, and guidance on next steps, along with an official United Nations certificate of participation and exclusive access to an online group to continue the exchanges and discussions.

The feedback from participants underlined the value of this new format:

“Thank you for facilitating this opportunity for discussion – it has been truly valuable.”

“This was a deeply valuable experience which was highly accessible and brought together a diverse group for constructive discussion and collaboration.”

“Big thanks to United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) & UN CC:Learn for a crisp, implementation-focused debrief and to Dr. Rocha for the inside-table context.”

Visually, The Debrief stood out through dedicated, modern branding that built on the familiar look and feel of the much-appreciated Climate Classroom series, while signalling a distinct, more advanced offer for professionals.

With this pilot, UN CC:Learn has added a new element to its portfolio, sitting alongside its self-paced online courses and other flagship initiatives, such as the Youth Climate Dialogues and the Climate Classroom. The Debrief format now provides a flexible model for future post COP briefings and other targeted deep dives that respond to the needs of practitioners who must quickly translate global decisions into concrete action.
