In the run-up to the annual climate conference in Paris, December 2015, the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and UN CC:Learn are providing a forum for youth both in Switzerland and UN CC:Learn partner countries to share their views about  climate change, both as a local and  a global issue.

The launch event of the Youth Climate Dialogue initiative takes place in St. Gallen on 09th November. Policy-makers, scientists, youth leaders, celebrities and executives from SDC and UNITAR will be attending to share their perspectives on climate change and the important role of youth and education as well.

More specific objectives include:

  • Strengthen understanding among youth of the causes and effects of climate change in different locations around the world
  • Facilitate a dialogue between youth in different countries on what climate change means for their personal lives
  • Create momentum and public visibility for the issue of climate change in the run-up to COP 21 in Paris, December 2015

At the core of the initiative, there are three events in the French, German and Italian speaking parts of Switzerland.

Each event features a debate and a video conference dialogue between a Swiss high-school and a school in a UN CC:Learn partner country about how youth perceive climate change, how it affects their lives, and what actions they consider most important.

The events are accompanied by a three-day photo exhibition organized by the “Fondation pour le development durable des regions de montagne” (FDDM) that illustrates the causes and consequences of climate change through the issue of glacier melting.
