El objetivo de este estudio es analizar el efecto económico que puede tener el cambio climático en Chile en los próximos 100 años. En este marco, se evalúan los impactos potenciales del cambio climático, se estudian las opciones de adaptación, se analizan las proyecciones de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) y las opciones de mitigación para el país.

En este volumen se muestra un atlas de las condiciones físicas actuales y de los cambios detectados en variables costeras tales como el nivel medio del mar, temperatura superficial del mar, salinidad, oleaje, marea astronómica, anomalía de la temperatura del aire, viento y huracanes.

Aun cuando América Latina y el Caribe generan tan solo un 5% de los gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) del planeta, los efectos del cambio climático pueden ser devastadores para la región. l desafío de reducir dichas emisiones es pues importante y requiere determinar una estrategia de desarrollo sostenible bajo en carbono para la región, con acciones de mitigación y adaptación de carácter urgente.

This publication argues that the Latin American and Caribbean region needs to make the transition in the years to come towards a more sustainable form of development that will preserve its economic, social and natural assets for future generations and leave them with a legacy of a more equal, more socially inclusive, low-carbon form of economic growth.

El estudio de la economía del cambio climático en la Argentina se enmarca en una iniciativa regional cuyo principal objetivo es demostrar la importancia económica que tiene el cambio climático para las sociedades, los sistemas productivos y el patrimonio natural de los países de la región, a fin de que los responsables de la toma de decisiones en los planos nacional y local tengan una herramienta que les permita tomar en consideración los costos y beneficios pertinentes en sus análisis.

La infraestructura en América Latina enfrenta un doble desafío, por un lado requiere incrementar con urgencia su dotación de infraestructura económica para hacer frente al crecimiento y desarrollo nacional, mientras que al mismo tiempo se demandan reformas profundas en la acción del Estado para reducir las externalidades negativas del transporte, promover un desarrollo más equitativo y avanzar hacia una economía con bajo contenido de carbono que posibilite una desarrollo con conciencia inter generacional.

The main purpose of this book is to suggest concrete ways in which the international community can begin to address the huge gaps in our knowledge relating to the likely impact of climate change on migration. 

The World Migration Report 2010, draws upon the findings of 19 background papers, prepared by distinguished migration experts. This study examines the question of durable solutions to displacement in Port-au- Prince, recognizing that the challenges faced in Haiti may be a source of insight for responses to other urban, post-disaster displacement crises. The study draws on the results of focus groups in camps and communities, site visits, and in-depth interviews with government officials, donors, local and international NGO representatives, and the staff of international organizations in Port-au-Prince.

This information document updates a study on the economics and cost effectiveness of technical and operational measures to reduce CO2 emissions from ships. The results may be used by ship designers, builders, owners and operators as a tool in their decision-making on whether to employ one or more technologies or operational measures.

This study was commissioned by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to analyse the potential reduction resulting from the mandated energy efficiency regulations on EEDI and SEEMP as finalised at MEPC62 in July 2011 and also to estimate the projected reduction in CO2 emissions from international shipping for every year up to year 2050 resulting from these agreed measures, using a number of scenarios.

This article argues that, as the world’s only really reliable, global, cost-effective and energy-efficient mass transportation method for energy, materials, foods and products, maritime transport is central to sustainable development. And the maritime transportation system itself must, therefore, ensure that its development is also sustainable.

This publication aims to provide an objective synthesis and analysis of the impacts of ocean fertilization on marine biodiversity. Among other findings, this publication demonstrates that there are uncertainties surrounding the viability of large-scale ocean fertilization as a carbon sequestration tool and potential adverse consequences for marine species, habitats and ecosystem function.
