The Steering Group Meeting provided the Secretariat with a wealth of ideas and suggestions for the new implementation phase of the programme.

On 6 March 2018, representatives of UN CC:Learn global members met in Geneva, Switzerland for the 8th UN CC:Learn Steering Group Meeting. Partners from FAO, ILO, IOM, UN Environment, UNECA, UNESCO, UNFCCC, UNITAR, UNSSC, UNU, WFP, WTO participated in the event to discuss the arrangements for the 2017-2020 phase of UN CC:Learn, launched on September 2017.

The day started with welcoming remarks from Mr. Daniel Maselli from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Mr. Steven Stone from UN Environment, and Mr. Angus Mackay from the UN CC:Learn Secretariat.

Participants celebrated the issuance of the UN CC:e-Learn 20,000th certificate.

The first session focused on UN CC:Learn’s key messages and impact. New activities to promote global climate change literacy were also discussed, particularly the expansion of the e-learning platform with additional features, languages and products, as well as the up-scaling of UN CC:Learn flagship initiatives. On this occasion, UN CC:Learn also had the opportunity to celebrate the 20,000 certifications on the UN CC:e-Learn platform. Further discussions covered the engagement with existing and new partner countries, including opportunities for South-South cooperation and regional exchanges.

The Steering Group Meeting provided the Secretariat with a wealth of ideas and suggestions for the implementation of the new phase. It was followed by a UN CC:Learn Country Exchange Workshop, held from 7-9 March 2018, which provided an opportunity to discuss and exchange with partner country representatives.
