National Planning for GHG Mitigation in Agriculture: A Guidance Document
This manual aims to provide national policy makers advisors and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector with an introduction to the main mitigation planning approaches and the key elements that may need to be considered in the planning process. It describes two of the main approaches to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation planning in developing countries: Low-Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) and Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). It explains the possible relationships between them and their status within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). National mitigation planning processes have policy, technical and institutional dimensions that need to be addressed in an integrated and iterative manner. For each of these dimensions four key elements are outlined. Examples from mitigation planning processes in developing countries are provided to illustrate the range of options for addressing these key elements in country-specific ways. Special considerations for including smallholder farmers in the planning process are highlighted.

Mainstreaming Gender in Health Adaptation to Climate Change Programmes: User's Guide
This manul is targeted towards programme managers who work in climate change and health adaptation, and provides them with practical information and concrete guidance to mainstream gender throughout all four phases of the project cycle: identification, formulation and design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. In order to effectively mainstream gender within their health adaptation to climate change programmes, managers learn to conduct a gender analysis of health vulnerability and adverse health impacts of climate change, and to design gender-responsive adaptation programmes and actions, thanks to the practical and programmatic recommendations.

Tourism in the Green Economy – Background Report
This analytical report makes the case for investments in greener and sustainable tourism as a means to create jobs and reduce poverty while also improving environmental outcomes. The report analyzes the main variables that influence tourism development, including climate change, and aims to demonstrate that concerted “greener” policies can steer the growth of the sector toward a more sustainable path. Compared with a “business-as-usual” scenario, it shows how a green investment scenario would allow the sector to continue to expand steadily over the coming decades while ensuring significant environmental benefits such as reductions in water consumption, energy use and CO2 emissions. The report aims at encouraging policy makers to support increased investment in greening the tourism sector.

Heritage and Resilience – Issues and Opportunities for Reducing Disaster Risk
This analytical report presents the current thinking in the field as well as various examples – from different regions of the world – of how heritage can be better protected from disasters, such as those provoked by climate change, while contributing to the resilience of societies. It aims to bring these important issues to the attention of the larger disaster risk reduction community and to stimulate wider discussion in the context of ongoing consultations around a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction and a post 2015 development agenda. In advocating for integration of these issues within both disaster risk and heritage conservation policies and practices, this paper promotes strategic partnerships that bring the knowledge and capacities of actors in the fields of cultural heritage and disaster risk together and encourages support to the initiatives of local governments and, most importantly, communities that safeguard our shared cultural heritage for resilience.

WMO Statement on the Status of the Global Climate in 1999
This technical document is part of an annual series published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on the status of the global climate. This year’s statement focuses on the status of the global climate in 1999. It notes that despite the cooling effect of La Niña, most evident in the near-surface waters of the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, 1999 was still one of the warmest years in the global historical instrumental record. Globally averaged temperature at the surface is now estimated at a little over 0.6°C above the comparable figure for the late 19th century. The 1990s were the warmest decade of the past century. Evidence is presented in this statement that, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the 20th century was most likely the warmest in the last millennium.
