This activity report summarizes a workshop in Kingston, Jamaica from 10 to 12 December 2012. The report includes topics such as building resilience and reducing vulnerabilities, the regional trend towards climate change adaptation, a regional framework for disaster management; and regional initiatives in advancing disaster risk management and climate change adaptation in fisheries and aquaculture. The workshop recommended that the strategy, the action plan and programme proposal to be finalized and implemented to strengthen regional and national cooperation and develop capacity in addressing climate change impacts and disasters. 

En el presente estudio analizamos no solo los efectos brutos iniciales del cambio climático sobre los rendimientos agrícolas, sino también los efectos netos permitiendo que ocurra una adaptación espontánea a través de la sustitución de cultivos. De acuerdo a nuestros cálculos, el valor presente neto de los efectos totales sumarian un total de pérdidas de 106 mil millones de dólares durante el período 2010-2100, lo que corresponde a una pérdida promedio de 16% del valor neto presente del PIB sectorial o de 2,1% del valor neto presente del PIB total durante el periodo 2010-2100. 

This manual discusses the concept of private finance, its links with climate change mitigation and adaptation and public actors’ roles to mobilize it. This manual identifies the current state of sustainable building initiatives in the nine selected countries and the progress of each one in two main technical areas: (1) energy efficiency initiatives for buildings and (2) sustainable building practices. The main public policies, standards, practices and initiatives related to these two topics are gathered and presented in a comparison table that portrays each country´s progress in both subjects.

This technical report includes sections on temperature and rainfall in Southern Africa, South-West Indian Ocean Island Countries, Central Africa, Eastern Africa, Western Africa and Northern Africa. The report further addresses 2013 extreme weather and climate events on the continent, including: floods and heavy precipitation; tropical cyclones and wind storms; and droughts, heat waves and fires. The data indicates that the year 2013 was one of the warmest in Africa since at least 1950, with temperatures above average in most regions.

This analytical report analyzes how a set of widely promoted agricultural practices, including reduced tillage, crop rotations, legume intercropping as well as the use of modern inputs, affect crop yields and their resilience in Zambia using panel data from the Rural Incomes and Livelihoods Surveys (RILS). This document provides new information to affirm that the 1987 international agreement known as the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer has successfully resulted in global international policies to reduced levels of ozone-depleting substances.

It explores how guarantees can respond to those challenges and highlights the crucial role national development banks can play in structuring and funding credit-guarantee schemes for their domestic markets. 

This technical report has concluded that ozone layer recovery will occur more rapidly if eliminating the production of the ozone-depleting substance (ODS) hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and managing other remaining ODSs, are fast-tracked. This report found that phasing out the small remaining uses of ODSs, which are currently exempted from phase-outs, would hasten ozone recovery by about 11 years. 

Este estudio utiliza datos de satélite y del re-análisis, combinados con datos de observaciones en superficie, para generar datos en rejilla de temperatura y precipitación para toda Bolivia, con especial énfasis en las cuencas de las zonas metropolitanas de La Paz y El Alto. Estos datos son validados comparándolos con datos de superficie, que típicamente son datos “puntuales”. Los datos obtenidos cubren el periodo 1979-2010 y fueron ajustados a nivel mensual porque a ese nivel temporal los datos muestran la mayor coherencia espacial y temporal. El análisis de los datos en rejilla, como los datos observacionales, sugiere que el periodo de lluvias en la región se ha acortado y que la intensidad de las precipitaciones se ha incrementado en los últimos 30 años. Los datos también indican que en la región del Altiplano sur la precipitación se ha reducido de manera notable. Es importante recalcar que posiblemente los datos en rejilla no reproduzcan los eventos más extremos observados.

Este documento es el informe del taller Mesoamericano, que tenia como objetivo identificar los vacíos técnicos e institucionales y los pasos necesarios para mejorar las capacidades de los Países Miembros, en relación con los procesos nacionales de reporte de emisiones de GEI. El enfoque está en los componentes de Agricultura y Uso de Tierra, Cambio de Uso de la Tierra y Silvicultura (UTCUTS) de los Informes Bienales de Actualización. Con más de ochenta participantes de quince países diferentes, el taller servio como una plataforma para el intercambio de experiencias entre los países de la región, y ayudo a identificar herramientas útiles para el análisis de datos.

L’objectif de la présente étude, la deuxième consacrée au charbon de bois (après l’étude du secteur réalisée en Ouganda en 2013) est d’amener la Côte d’Ivoire à définir progressivement son futur développement sobre en carbone. La mise en œuvre d’une chaîne de valeur durable permettra d’accroître l’efficacité et l’efficience de la chaîne actuelle et de supprimer l’une des principales causes de la déforestation tout en augmentant la sécurité et la durabilité énergétiques. 

Este estudio aborda cómo el cambio climático afectaría la actividad económica nacional, evaluando las potenciales modificaciones en la disponibilidad de los recursos naturales y las actividades productivas más sensibles a cambios en el clima (agricultura, ganadería altoandina, minería, energía hidroeléctrica, turismo y pesca), tanto en términos físicos como sociales. También se analizan dos sectores transversales, la infraestructura y la salud, que son condicionantes para el desempeño productivo.

This activity report draws on eight case studies to raise awareness of existing institutional arrangements that support adaptation at different governance levels. The report identifies the main challenges those institutions face and highlight key lessons learned from their work and define a set of concrete measures to enhance the effectiveness of institutional arrangements.

This manual aims to facilitate greater access to electricity by rural communities through the provision of climate finance under a National Appropriate Mitigation Action (“NAMA”). The paper describes a model approach to financing the development, implementation and operation of a sector-wide programme for renewable energy rural electrification.
