Use of National Census Data for Environmental Analysis
Despite their potential, censuses have not been sufficiently exploited as key data source for environmental studies and climate change analysis. This slide presenation presents an overview of the potential of census data, provides some examples of the use of census data in particular countries, and highlights the potential of such data to provide evidence in still unexplored areas.

Population Dynamics and Climate Change: Linkages and Challenges
This slide presentation reviews the linkage between climate change and population growth. “Population” effects on emissions are determined by consumption patterns of different countries and social groups. Therefore the document highlights that demographic processes necessitate more explicit consideration and discusses their implications for policy.

At the Frontier: Young People and Climate Change
This analytical report is the Youth Supplement to the UNFPA report « State of the World population 2009 ». The publication looks at 7 stories from young people around the world who have experienced, or live in the midst of, circumstances that are likely to increase in frequency and force, when impacts of climate change arrive broadly. The stories in this publication are examples of what life will bring to millions more young people in the future, if the world fails to take action in order to adapt to and mitigate climate change, and reduce carbon emissions.

State of the World Population 2007: Unleashing the Potential of Urban Growth
This analytical report addresses the challenges and the potential related to urbanization. For the first time in history, more than half its human population, 3.3 billion people, will be living in urban areas. Many of the new urbanites will be poor. Yet no country in the industrial age has ever achieved significant economic growth without urbanization. Cities concentrate poverty, but they also represent the best hope of escaping it. The future of cities in developing countries, the future of humanity itself, all depend very much on decisions made now in preparation for this growth.

State of the World Population 2009: Facing a Changing World: Women, Population and Climate
This analytical report analyses the linkage among population dynamics, greenhouse gases and climate change. The whole world has been talking about carbon credits, carbon trading and emissions targets. But not enough has been said about the people whose activities contribute to those emissions or about those who will be most affected by climate change, especially women. The climate-change debate needs to be reframed, putting people at the centre. Unless climate policies take people into account, they will fail to mitigate climate change or to shield vulnerable populations from the potentially disastrous impacts.

Climate Change Connections: A Resource Kit on Climate, Population and Gender
This manual consists of a comprehensive resource kit on gender, population and climate change developed by UNFPA and WEDO. It shows how gender equality can reduce vulnerability to climate change impacts and how women are uniquely positioned to help curb the harmful consequences of a changing climate.

Population and Climate Change: UNFPA Statement
This document discusses the linkage between climate change, environmental concerns and population dynamics. Reduced to essentials, climate change is ultimately produced by the pressures placed on the Earth’s ecosystem by humankind’s development efforts, especially over the last half-century. This note focuses on the contribution of a population-based development agency to better understanding and more effective responses to the threat of climate change.

The Interface between Population, the Environment and Poverty Alleviation
This is a Statement by Safiye Çagar, Director of the Information and External Relations Division of the United Nations Population Fund delivered on 2 October 2008 at the EuroNGO’s 2008 Annual Conference. He highlights that while population growth may exacerbate the environmental and food crises, the causes are much more complex, including consumption levels, technology, trade, economic and agricultural policies, as well as values and aspirations.

Urban Density and Climate Change
This analytical report presents a review of the interaction between urban density, climate change, and sea-level rise. The paper has a focus on two main themes: the interaction between urban density and the generation of greenhouse gases and how this affects mitigation strategies; and the consequences of climate change on urban settlements of varying population densities and how this affects adaptation strategies.

The Implications of Population Growth and Urbanization for Climate Change
The analytical report considers the implications of population growth and urbanization for climate change in terms of the contribution of urban populations (and centres) to human induced climate change. It emphasizes how it is not the growth in (urban or rural) population but the growth in consumption that drives the growth in greenhouse gas emissions and that a significant proportion of the world’s urban (and rural) population have consumption levels that are so low that they contribute little or nothing to such emissions.

Recommendations on Future Financing Options for Enhancing the Development, Deployment, Diffusion and Transfer of Technologies under the Convention
This policy document presents the recommendations of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer on future financing options necessary for enhancing the development and transfer of technologies, for consideration by the subsidiary bodies at their thirtieth sessions. It presents three indicative financing options for enhancing the development and transfer of technologies under the Convention: (a) the enhancement of existing and emerging technology financing arrangements; (b) a decentralized or centralized comprehensive new international technology financing scheme; and (c) limited new technology financing and coordination arrangements with sectoral activities.
