The Teachers

Gianluca CRISPI is a Legal Officer working for the UNFCCC secretariat. In his current role, he advises on legal questions arising in the UN Climate Change process related to the implementation and interpretation of mandates, rules of procedure as well as the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. In addition, he provides legal advice on questions related to the negotiation and implementation of the international climate regime related to adaptation and loss and damage. Previously, working as a Legal Specialist for UN-Habitat he assisted National and Local Governments in policy formulation and in the review and reform of legal and institutional frameworks to address climate change. He holds an advanced university degree in law from the University of Palermo in Italy.

The Class

The class will provide an overview of the UN Climate Change regime. This will include a history of the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement, as well as an introduction to some key themes that will be discussed at the Dubai Climate Change Conference (the loss and damage fund, the global goal on adaptation, and the global stocktake).
