Guidance on the Development of Regional Climate Scenarios for Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessments
This manual builds on existing material and focuses on providing practical guidance on the key technical issues in relation to climate scenario information within the context of preparing Second National Communications. The document underlines the vital importance of a planning/scoping exercise to define clearly the needs for climate scenario information; describes a three-stage approach for climate scenario development; highlights documentation as an integral part of scenario development and provides a list of freely accessible sources of models, tools, data and guidance materials.

Managing the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Process
This manual supports the compilation of a national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory. This requires a fairly lengthy and interconnected series of tasks, including collecting emission factors and activity data, selecting appropriate methods, estimating GHG emissions and removals, implementing uncertainty assessment and quality assurance/quality control procedures, reporting the results, and documenting and archiving all relevant data and procedures. The target audience for this handbook is non-Annex I Party inventory experts concerned with general aspects of GHG inventory planning, preparation and management. As the majority of non-Annex I Parties have prepared at least one national GHG inventory, this handbook focuses on improving and updating the GHG inventory and on managing these processes, including improved documentation and archiving.

Generating High Resolution Climate Change Scenarios Using PRECIS
This manual aims to describe the steps required to generate high-resolution climate change scenarios using the model PRECIS and taking into account remaining gaps in information and understanding. In fact, it is important that adaptation decisions are based on a range of climate scenarios accounting for the many uncertainties associated with projecting future climate.

Climate Change: One Planet, One Chance
This slide presentation introduces the Magnum photo essay. The images show that climate change is affecting rainfall, temperatures and water availability for agriculture in vulnerable areas. The danger is that extreme food insecurity episodes will become more common. Major killer diseases could expand their coverage. Rich countries are already preparing public health to deal with future climate shocks. For poor countries it is much harder: they need international support to adapt.

Burkina Faso: Protecting the Environment by Profiting from Garbage
This video shows how garbage can profit the environment. Burkina Faso’s first plastic recycling centre is paving the way for a new kind of development project. It provides a money earner to the poor while tackling environmental pollution. Local industry also benefits – the recycled plastic granules cost half the price of importing new plastic from abroad.

"Confronting Climate Change": How Cooperatives Contribute to Meeting Today's Challenges
This slide presentation shows how cooperatives can contribute to meeting global challenges. Ranging from small-scale to multi-million dollar businesses, cooperatives today employ some 100 million women and men in both industrialized and developing countries, and have more than 800 million individual members across the globe. ‘Concern for Community’ is one of the Cooperative Principles which guides the work of cooperatives around the world. Celebrated annually on the first Saturday of July, the 14th UN International Day of Cooperatives focuses this year on the significant contribution that cooperatives can make to mitigating climate change.

The Impact of Climate Change Policies on Employment in the Coal Mining Industry
This analytical report by Cain Polidano states that commitments of developed countries to curb greenhouse gas emssions under the UNFCCC lead to falls in coal production and hence to significant falls in coalmining employment. It predicts that global coal employment could fall by 53 per cent under the most stringent emission reduction scenario.
