This document presents a summary of the state of knowledge on ocean acidification based on the latest research presented at the Third Symposium on the Ocean in a High-CO2 World, which convened 540 experts from 37 countries to discuss the results of research into ocean acidification, its impacts on ecosystems, socio-economic consequences and implications for policy.

This technical document provides an assessment of the technology needed for nationwide mitigation remedies. In particular, section I includes the Technology Needs Assessments (TNA) report, which focuses on technology prioritization for the energy management sector. Section II lays out the Technology Action Plans (TAPs) for the specific sectors selected in Section I through a prioritization process and section III elaborates cross-cutting issues for the TNAs and TAPs of the nation’s different sectors. The document helps Thailand to identify technological needs and reinforce its capacity in the area of climate change.

This manual provides information on financing sources to support implementation of Technology Action Plans (TAPs) for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction. It covers both mitigation ‘projects’ (such as a wind farm or a solar PV generation facility) and ‘programmes’ (such as a credit line for financing energy efficiency projects in small and medium-sized enterprises, or bulk procurement and distribution of compact fluorescent lamps to households). The primary emphasis is on multilateral and bilateral sources of financing but it also includes an overview of private funding sources and public-private partnerships (PPPs). The target audience is national experts, consultants, and government agencies within developing countries’ Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) teams, including a broad range of stakeholders from government institutions, non-government organisations, and the private sector.

This brochure provides the key figures for the Universal Postal Union (UPU) third carbon inventory, which was carried out in 2010 thanks to the cooperation of the designated operators of 133 Union member countries. The UPU International Bureau performed the inventory calculations using a specific tool created by the organization, based on a methodology recognized internationally by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Global Reporting Initiative. This inventory takes account of emissions from vehicle fleets, postal buildings (electricity, fuel, refrigerant gases), air, sea and rail cargo, business travel and subcontractors’ activities (transport and buildings).

This manual includes a communication kit designed to explain, briefly, what the concept of carbon offset covers, and why such a concept could be of interest to the postal sector. Its aim is to encourage member countries to start taking an interest in this area, and prompt them to read the « e-learning kit », which explains in greater detail what system could be used by the Universal Postal Union if its members decided to implement the study. 

This manual consists of an e-learning kit designed to explain, in detail: the context of a postal sector-based project; what the concept of carbon offset covers; existing offsetting mechanisms; and why such a concept could be of interest to the postal sector. It is aimed at encouraging member countries to understand clearly and completely the concept of offsetting in order to support the creation of an offsetting system for the postal sector.
