Seguridad Alimentaria, Desastres y Cambio Climático en la Región Andina
This visual aid maps climate, food security and disaster threats that will impede the sustainable development of communities in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
The Atlas is one outcome of the World Food Programme’s Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM) work, which focuses on food security. The Atlas can help policymakers identify areas most in need of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and prepare to mitigate the consequences of cimate-related disasters, according to WFP Regional Director Miguel Barreto.

Adressing Climate Change: Why Biodiversity Matters
This policy brief discusses the potential negative effects of climate change mitigation programmes on biodiversity. It concludes biodiversity conservation can support climate change mitigation and adaptation goals if all potential impacts are weighed carefully in the policymaking process. Conserving biological diversity can also have the added effect of helping ensure the permanence of mitigation and adaptation benefits. The brief acknowledges that there may be trade-offs between biodiversity and climate change policies but argues these trade-offs can be minimized when mutual benefits are recognized and incorporated into policy design.

Understanding the Economics of Climate Adaptation in Trinidad and Tobago
This analytical report identifies expected climate change risks for Trinidad and Tobago generally and by their potential impacts on six priority sectors, namely agriculture, human health, human settlements, coastal zones, water resources and energy. The study: calculates the economic impact of probable damages; identifies possible adaptation actions to reduce impacts and possible barriers to their implementation, and calculate their costs/benefits; and prioritizes adaptation measures. The prioritization was carried out through weighted scoring taking into account: the ability of the measure to decrease climate change impacts; the urgency for implementing a measure in order to gain maximum benefit; «no regret» strategies that can be justified in economic terms even without climate change; positive secondary effects; and possible climate change mitigation co-benefits.

Climate Change 2014 – Mitigation of Climate Change
This summary for policymakers of the International Panel on Climate Change Working Group III analitycal report outlines technological and behavioral changes that can limit the increase in global average temperatures to less than two degrees Celsius, the point at which science shows that climate impacts begin to overwhelm human coping efforts. The report further notes that only major institutional and technological change will result in a better than even chance that global warming will not exceed this threshold.

Integrating the Environment in Urban Planning and Management
This technical document is intended to encourage and support urban decision-makers in this process. It starts with recognizing that action taken in towns and cities is essential for addressing global environmental problems such as climate change. It accepts that, with an increasing proportion of the worlds population living in urban areas in low- and middle-income countries, these are important sites for engaging with the environment. The report describes the social and economic benefits that can be generated by addressing environmental challenges such as cliamte change, and provides convincing evidence to support engagement with these issues.

WMO Statement on the Status of the Global Climate in 2013
This analytical report confirms that 2013 tied with 2007 as the sixth warmest on record, continuing the long-term global warming trend, and highlights that 13 of the 14 warmest years on record have all occurred in the 21st century. The document also provides short synopses of the status of the climate in different regions, and describes the impacts of continuing and increasing global warming on the regions, including increased incidences of extreme weather events, as well as the loss of lives and livelihoods caused by these events. The statement includes a list and description of major weather and climate events around the world in 2013, such as Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) which devastated parts of the Philippines, and the severe floods in the Alps and various European countries. It also contains a case study into the record hot Australian summer of 2012/13 and record hot calendar year of 2013, concluding that the record hot summer “was about five times as likely as a result of human-induced influence on cliimate” and that the record hot calendar “would have been virtually impossible without human contributions of heat-trapping gases.”
