This technical document was developed as a prototype guide to assist Parties not included in Annex I of the UN Climate Change Convention to prepare the vulnerability and adaptation (V&A) section of their national communications. Although this module can be read alone, it is also the second in a series of four modules that form a complete resource guide for preparing the national communications of non-Annex I Parties.

This activity report gives an overview of the most representative GHG data provided by Parties to the Convention since 1994. In particular, it covers the following GHGs: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) from the period of 1990 – 2003. The document aims to diffuse useful information that Parties have provided under the Convention, to reflect adequately the tremendous efforts by Parties in preparing and submitting GHG data, and to become a key reference for national GHG data.

This technical document is designed for use by Parties and national experts responsible for the preparation of the various sections of national communications, and also by national climate change teams or committees that facilitate the coordination, organization and management of various tasks and activities.

This activity report includes the proceedings of the 2005 Seminar of Governmental Experts. This meeting has been organized in an effort to maintain momentum in dealing with the threat of climate change and its effects. A proposal consists of a plan to do something, combined with a request for resources. While no single formula or template exists for preparing a successful proposal, there are common ingredients that most well-prepared proposals contain. This guidebook explains these common elements using a question-and-answer framework.

This analytical report stresses that the development, deployment, and diffusion, including transfer, of environmentally sound technologies to developing countries to significantly reduce the emission of greenhouse gases require vast amounts of investment. Since the required amounts of investment are much more than the funds currently available from public sources, it is necessary to attract funding from other sources by creating innovative financing approaches that make it possible for a limited amount of public funds to attract significant amounts of funding from private sources.

This activity report provides an overview of EGTT achievements over the last five years.
