This press release summarises the conclusions reached by a group of key UN and non-UN aid agencies attending climate change talks in Bonn about the humanitarian impacts of climate change. The group called for the impact to be addressed in the successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol in Copenhagen.

In developed countries, livelihood and asset losses sustained in natural disasters are often covered by international insurance, capital markets, or simply by government budgets that act as contingency funds. Many developing countries are particularly exposed to natural disaster risk, but do not make use of these risk transfer instruments.
