UN CC:Learn Global Partners Meet in Bonn to Discuss Future of the Partnership

13 April 2017 | Bonn, Germany

On 4 April 2017, the UN CC:Learn global partners met in Bonn, Germany, for the 7th UN CC:Learn Steering Group Meeting. Participants from FAO, ILO, IMO, SDC, UNECE, UNEP, UNESCO, the UNFCCC Secretariat, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNITAR, UNSSC, UNU, UN-Habitat, WHO and the World Bank participated directly or via phone and discussed the ambition and design of the UN CC:Learn 2017-2020 phase.  The meeting was hosted by the UNFCCC Secretariat.

The day started with a warm welcome to UNHCR and UNECE, the latest comers to the partnership, as well as a discussion on how each partner had been involved so far. Before discussing the next phase, the Secretariat facilitated a discussion on results and lessons learned from the 2011-2014 and 2014-2017 phases.

The discussions on ambition and design of the next UN CC:Learn phase specifically focussed on aligning the next phase with the SDGs and on reaching the furthest first, then on models to upscale the support provided at national level through south-south collaboration and tailoring of online resources. The discussions finally switched to the role of the UN CC:Learn partners within the partnership, and the role of the UN CC:Learn partnership in the global climate change education and training landscape.

The meeting provided the Secretariat with a wealth of ideas – and expectations – on the shape which will take the UN CC:Learn for the 2017-2020 phase. The meeting followed the UN CC:Learn Country Exchange Workshop, which was held in Addis Ababa in March, which was an opportunity to gather input on those elements from the national partners.
