  2. E-learning Course on Climate Change Adaptation, Loss and Damage

    This e-learning course aims to facilitate international negotiations, public sector work, and diplomatic engagement in relation to climate change impacts and adaptation measures through an enhanced understanding of its science, the international policy framework, and the key negotiation issues pertinent to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process. At the end of the course, participants should be able to: comprehend climate change science and the observed and projected impacts of climate change; track and explain the international adaptation and loss and damage policy framework, in particular the negotiations under the UNFCCC; define and understand adaptation, loss and damage from climate change impacts and its links to mitigation; appreciate international considerations for climate change decision-making; appraise the key issues in the ongoing international climate change negotiations, and how to build and move forward from the outcomes of COP18.

  3. Second FAO Regional Workshop on Statistics for Greenhouse Gas Emissions

    The workshop brings together high-level staff of Ministries of Agriculture, Agricultural National Statistical Agencies or Bureaus responsible for national greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting under international climate policy processes, to help further the conversation on how to improve statistics for GHG emissions. The workshop served as a platform to exchange information on national GHG data processes, identify critical institutional and technical gaps, and explore the role that FAO can play via its new FAOSTAT Emissions database in support of its Member Countries’ needs.

  5. Regional Workshop on Climate Services at the National Level for Small Island Developing States in the Caribbean

    This workshop aims to bring together experts from the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) and the key  decision-makers and practitioners from the initial four priority areas of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS). It facilitates the identification of appropriate mechanisms and networks to improve and sustain the flow of climate information for different users. Among its objectives, it aims to improves knowledge of the existing interface mechanisms and to identify, propose and prioritize, ways to promote community understanding and awareness of climate variability and change, and associated risks and opportunities for improved climate risk management and adaptation, and climate products and services required thereof.

  7. Climate Change Workshop for Dominican Journalists

  8. Symposium on Aviation and Climate Change

    This symposium is the fourth in a series of environment-related events which aim to foster a dialogue amongst participants on environment and aviation. Organized under the theme “Destination Green”, it provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and exchange information on the key areas of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)'s environmental protection activities. Key issues under discussion include plans to reduce CO2 emissions and new standards, sustainable alternative fuels for aviation, and market-based measures to reduce aviation emissions. In conjunction with the symposium, an exhibition is organized to showcase the latest tools, products and technologies that can positively contribute to many of the measures and initiatives supporting States’ Action Plans to reduce aviation emissions.

  10. 8th Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change

    The symposium aims to move forward the agenda on using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to monitor climate change, mitigate and adapt to its effects. In particular, it is dedicated to the theme of Smart Sustainable Cities and focuses on the issue of ICTs, the environment and climate change in the world and the needs for smart green ICT technologies. Topics to be discussed include, inter alia, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, e-waste, disaster preparedness, cost-effective ICT technologies, methodologies for the environmental impact assessment of ICTs, ICT technologies for smart cities and smart societies, challenges and opportunities in the transition to a green and resource efficient economy.   11. E-learning Course on Cities and Climate Change Leadership

    This e-learning course discusses how cities and urban regions can lead climate actions and mainstream climate mitigation and adaptation into their development plans. Its overall objective is to encourage city leaders and decision makers to undertake climate actions suitable to local needs.   12. E-learning Course on Saving Energy Through Energy Savings Performance Contracts

    This e-learning course aims to enable participants to: 1) identify Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) opportunities in the public sector in their country; 2) define the overall procurement process for ESPCs in a public agency; 3) document case studies on specific country experiences using the ESPC approach; 4) identify how to address the key procurement issues related to the ESPC approach; and 5) develop a “roadmap” for employing the ESPC approach and selecting energy service providers to implement energy efficiency projects in the public sector. It consists of seven modules presenting key concepts and providing opportunities to apply and discuss them. All modules use multimedia presentations and offer selected readings. Quizzes, research exercises and case studies help to broaden participants’ understanding of the topics in a proactive way.

    This e-learning course covers essential aspects of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies and discusses how they can contribute to green growth strategies. It aims to provide a better understanding of the policy instruments used to promote the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in developing countries. The course begins with an overview of the range of policy tools available, including price instruments (e.g., feed-in tariffs), quantity instruments (e.g., tradable renewable energy certificates) and standards (e.g., building codes for energy efficiency).     This national training workshop assesses the total costs of REDD+ activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).   24. Webinar on Financing Energy Efficiency: Lessons from International Experience

It is also an opportunity to discuss priority issues and share lessons and experiences from the development and implementation of GEF projects and their integration within national policy frameworks. Target countries include: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
