  1. Blended Learning Programme on Science and Policy of Climate Change

    This 12-week program on science and policy of climate change consists of four learning modules spread over three weeks on 1) science of climate change, 2) impacts of climate change, 3) understanding climate change, and 4) action and political economy. The duration of each module is 20-25 learning hours. The program is delivered through a blended learning format comprising video-recorded lectures, academic articles and multimedia among others. The program targets development practitioners, policy makers, the corporate sector, graduates and mid-level professionals.

  2. E-learning Course on Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings

    This Structured Learning Program for Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings equips different stakeholders with technical and program management skills, tools and knowledge on the “how” of identifying, developing and implementing energy efficiency programs in public buildings. This course consists of eight modules with multiple lessons in each, presenting key concepts and providing opportunities to apply and discuss them. All modules use multimedia presentations and offer selected readings. Quizzes, research exercises and case studies help to broaden participants’ understanding of the topics in a proactive way.

  3. Inventory Review Training

  4. In-Session Workshop on Technology Needs Assessments

    This in-session workshop aims to share experiences and lessons learned from the Technology Needs Assessments (TNA) process between various stakeholders with a view to supporting action on mitigation and adaptation. In particular, the in-session workshop aims to address the following questions:

    -What are the experiences and lessons learned from the TNA process?
    -What are the specific needs and practical actions that could assist countries in implementing the results of TNAs?
    -How can the TNA process be linked to other planning tools under the Convention?

    The entire event will be also available on webcast. Viewers can participate via Twitter by using the hashtag #climatetech to keep track of discussion. To ask the panel of experts a question or leave a comment, viewers may use the same hashtag in their Twitter posts and can also send their questions or comments to @UN_climatetalks.

  5. Fourth Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of CDM Projects in Asia and the Pacific

  6. Course on Andean Climate Variability and Change

    The course aims to foster cross-disciplinary connections and collaborations and covers a broad spectrum of climate change aspects. The course includes a mix of plenary lectures, working groups and individual computer-based assignments. It is intended to provide a platform where the next generation of scientists from the Andes can gain professional experience and make connections beyond their countries’ borders.

    The specific topics to be discussed include:
    - General concepts of Andean climate: mean state, variability and change
    -  Availability, applicability and limitations of data sets and methods for data analysis
    - Theory of model development and analysis
    - Key elements of regional atmospheric modeling (numeric, parameterization schemes, initial and boundary conditions)
    - Downscaling methods (dynamical and empirical-statistical)
    - Individual computer labs and group-based analysis of case studies

  10. E-learning Course on Policies for Low Emissions Development: From Strategy Design to Implementation

    This e-learning course starts by discussing the rationale for Low Emissions Development (LED) policy and the expected benefits of such policies. The discussion considers both contributions to global emissions reductions and local development opportunities. It continues with a broad overview of LED policy instruments and is enriched with examples of how these instruments have been implemented worldwide. Individual lessons provide more details on the design and implementation of specific policy approaches, including information and labeling programs, voluntary industrial agreements, performance and technology standards for the industries and vehicles, emissions trading systems, and carbon taxes. The course finalizes by providing policy diagnosis tools and strategic guidance for policy implementation. The diagnosis tools can help countries to identify and select policy instruments suitable to their specific needs.

  12. Symposium on Education & Training for Environmental Services

    This symposium aims to stimulate and facilitate the development of education and training capacities within the worldwide meteorological and hydrological community and to recommend possible new avenues for development.     The key objectives of this symposium include:

    - To review progress on clarifying the roles of Regional Training Centres;

    - To examine WMO qualifications and competency strategies;

    - To review progress made in the expansion of e-Learning opportunities and create strategies for future expansion;

    - To review and discuss the new WMO training competencies and guidelines; and;

    - To plan for training management development and training capability frameworks.

  13. Launch Event - National Strategy to Strengthen Human Resources, Learning and Skills Development to Address Climate Change of Indonesia

    Indonesia is one of five pilot countries that implement a UN CC:Learn Project on Strengthening Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change in 2011-2013. The projects aim at supporting countries in taking a strategic and results-oriented approach to climate change learning. The project in Indonesia is coordinated through a National Coordination Mechanism bringing together different Government sectors, national universities, private sector and civil society organizations. Through a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral process the country developed a National Strategy to Strengthen Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change.

  14. Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum 2013

    This Forum aims to serve as a platform for promoting the discussion and exchange of experiences among stakeholders and provide the participants with the latest developments regarding emissions trading schemes, low emission development and the future of the carbon markets. The Forum also aims to facilitate debates around the international and national climate change mitigation policies to promote greenhouse gases (GHG) emission reductions. Participants at the Forum can expect to:

    - Be updated on different views of challenges associated with global climate change and most recent developments in the international carbon market;
    - Discuss with project developers and technical specialists about best practices and lessons learned for the implementation of Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) projects in Latin America and the Caribbean region;

  15. E-learning Course on the Economics of Climate-Resilient Development

    This e-learning course aims to teach the basics for developing economically viable climate-resilient plans. It starts with a review of the scientific consensus on changes in climate patterns and projections to the future, and explains the rationale for countries to develop climate-resilient plans that will help them to move away from a business-as-usual development path. The course continues with a description of a How-to Framework for Climate-Resilient Development Plans and ends with a practical application of the Framework, based upon a policy scenario in the agricultural sector, where participants need to make decisions for managing the country’s risk to the potential threats of climate change. Throughout the course, interactive exercises help the users to test their understanding at key points. Case studies, reference materials and other resources are highlighted so as to strengthen the learning experience.

  16. Workshop on Adaptation for Asian Least Developped Countries

    This workshop provides technical guidance and advice to the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in addressing adaptation to climate change through the National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs), the LDC work programme and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process, through the exchange of information, and the promotion of regional synergies and synergies with other conventions. It is preceded by a one-day preparatory meeting organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 19 August, to discuss, among other issues, integration of biodiversity and climate change adaptation at the national level, progress in revising and updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) and synergies in implementing the objectives of all three Rio Conventions at the national level. Participation of biodiversity experts in the UNFCCC workshop is facilitated through collaboration with the CBD Secretariat.

  17. E-Learning Course on Carbon Monitoring in CDM Afforestation/Reforestation Projects

    This e-learning course presents the methods for carbon monitoring in afforestation and reforestation projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and includes three modules:

    - Module 1: Preparing for Project Monitoring (reviews key concepts, such as carbon pools, project stratification and boundary, sampling design and species data);

    - Module 2: Monitoring Forest Carbon Stocks (how to measure various forest carbon pools);

    - Module 3: Monitoring Project Emissions and Leakage (explores sources of project emissions and leakage).

    The course is made up of two parts: (1) three self-paced multimedia learning modules, each of which is around 1 hour; and (2) online facilitated discussion forums. Participants are expected to devote a total of 8 hours to complete this course. Target audience included in particular project developers, managers and staff working on afforestation/reforestation projects and on carbon finance.

  22. Development of Educational Poster on Climate Change in Malawi: Workshop and Field Testing

  25. Course on Developing and Monitoring Agriculture Carbon Projects

    This e-Course is based on the new Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) carbon accounting methodology, developed and piloted under the BioCarbon Fund’s Agriculture Carbon Project in Kenya that involves smallholder farmers. It presents how carbon is monitored and calculated under SALM, the case-study of Kenya Agricultural Carbon Project, and how the project is benefiting thousands of smallholder farmers.

    This course will enable participants to: 

    - Understand the links between agriculture and climate change
    - Learn the SALM carbon accounting methodology and how to develop and monitor agricultural carbon projects under this accounting methodology
    - Learn how the new SALM methodology has been applied to develop and monitor the Kenya Agricultural Carbon project.
