  1. Caribbean Regional Writeshop to Support Developing Country Publications on Adaptation to Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction

    Through this writeshop, participants produce a peer-review, publishable quality article and gain enhanced awareness of the process of writing papers for academic journals. These skills will allow their work to be eligible for incorporation into publications of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other high-level scientific bodies and consequently inform policy making on key issues of risk and climate. The writeshop involves one-on-one work with facilitators to provide guidance and supplemental training on academic writing skills and argumentation, in order to help new authors reach a standard of writing suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals. It targets young scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and others from the Caribbean who are working in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction.

  2. E-learning Course on Negotiating Climate Change Finance

    This course aims to provide the skills and knowledge needed for participation in multilateral negotiations, in particular in the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It aims to enable those working in relation to climate change finance, with respect to diplomatic engagement, public and/or private sector activities, to work efficiently towards finding agreement on pertinent policy making challenges. The course shall enable participants to enhance their understanding of the key objectives and instruments of international climate finance, the multilateral policy framework and key negotiation issues crucial to reaching a post-2012 agreement, particularly with respect to the forthcoming negotiations in Durban later this year (UNFCCC COP17).

  3. Global Science Conference on Climate-Smart Agriculture

  6. WCRP Open Science Conference on Climate Research in Service to Society

    This conference aims to promote skills development to meet the needs for integrated climate science, information and capacity building with regard to climate variability and change in the five continents, taking into account their specific characteristics. Through a synthesis of research findings, the conference intends to promote an assessment of the current state of knowledge on climate variability and change, identifies the most urgent scientific issues and research challenges, and ascertains how the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) can best facilitate research and develops partnerships critical for progress. A Plenary Session begins each day with presentations and discussions by leading scientists and conference participants who are informed by community-based position papers on challenges and advancements in major, cross-cutting issues. The Plenary Session is followed by Poster Sessions.

  7. Workshop on Mastering Water Risks for Banks and Investors in a Changing Climate

    This workshop aims to raise awareness and build capacity for banks to identify and manage water risks related to lending in water scarce areas and/or water-intensive sectors. It should not only deepen the understanding of participants on water risk in the context of climate uncertainty, but also provide financiers with the requisite tools to approach water and sustainability issues in an age of climate change. Specifically, the workshop will deal with: the materiality of water for banks from a lending perspective, the tools to identify and manage water risks, and practical case studies to better understand how to deal with water risks in participants’ institutions.

  9. Global Roundtable on Financial Stability and Sustainability

    This conference provides opportunities for knowledge-sharing on climate change and casts a spotlight on the global sustainable development agenda from the perspective of the financial sector players. It aims to bridge the gap between financial sector and policy-makers and discuss in depth the most pressing issues for the financial sector. The potential impact of financial sector in mitigating and adapting to climate change is discussed at the Climate Change Work Stream parallel sessions, designed to invoke the most prominent themes relevant to the each sector of the financial industry; banking, industry, and insurance. An overarching session on climate change policy and competitiveness of the financial industry provides the incentives and a roadmap ahead for the next step.

  11. ICAO Aviation and Sustainable Alternative Fuels Workshop

    This workshop provides a forum for information exchange on the state of worldwide activities on sustainable alternative fuels, especially biofuels, for aviation. In addition, the workshop aims to enhance dialogue among member States, financial institutions, fuel producers and operators over project financing for sustainable alternative aviation fuels. Further discussions focus on, among others: harmonizing life cycle analysis methodologies; sustainability criteria; legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure availability of supply of sustainable alternative fuels for aviation; and the role of sustainable alternative fuels in member States' emissions reduction actions.

  23. Workshop on Technology Transfer in Energy and Efficient Lighting to Combat Climate Change

    This workshop aims to assess opportunities for transition to efficient lighting in the Middle East and North African region. In addition to detailed Country Lighting Assessments, UNEP presents a report on state of efficient lighting in the region by listing projects, activities and identifying obstacles and challenges facing the lighting sector. The workshop further examines the economic and environmental benefits from shifting to efficient lighting.  The seminar involves the participation of representatives from Ministries of Energy and Environment from the region. Delegates from national utilities, international organizations, banks, the private sector and civil society are also invited to participate. Speakers include governmental representatives from Lebanon, Egypt and Morocco. The event is held during the Beirut Energy Forum which runs from 28-30 September in Lebanon.

  24. Sixth Latin American Carbon Forum

    The VI Latin American Carbon Forum is a regional event established to promote knowledge and information sharing while facilitating business opportunity environments among main carbon market stakeholders. Additionally, it focuses on analysing the international and national climate change mitigation policies and facilitates a comprehensive debate about the negotiation of greenhouse gases (GHG) emission reductions.
