  1. Regional Workshop on Climate Change - Impacts, Adaptation and Development in Mountain Regions (Central Asia)

    This regional workshop brings together government delegates, policy makers, scientists and climate change experts to strengthen knowledge about the climate change impacts in mountain areas, to discuss adaptation options in mountain ecosystems and to promote better alliances and cooperation amongst countries with mountain territories so to reinforce their understanding of key issues. The meeting is complemented with a field visit to the Nurobod district of the Rasht Valley and to two villages with pilot activities addressing the complexity of climate change in high altitude contexts. This workshop is part of a series of three regional workshops organized within the framework of the “Strategic Initiative for Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Development in Mountain Regions”.

  3. E-learning Course on CDM Programme of Activities: Challenges and Opportunities

    This e-Learning course of the World Bank Institute provides project developers, carbon market agents, development practitioners and government agencies with essential knowledge on climate change and carbon finance. It helps to better understand the opportunities and challenges of the Programmatic Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and illustrates how Programmatic CDM can be used as a tool for catalyzing low carbon development. The course builds on the experience of the World Bank Group and strategic partners such as the German Development Bank (KfW) and the United Nations Environment Program.

  7. Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum 2011

    The Adaptation Forum 2011 provides an occasion to share frontline findings and innovations, opportunities and challenges in mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development. Building on from Adaptation Forum 2010, it aims to focus on “Adaptation in Action” signifying a shift from deliberations to decisions, plans to policies and policies to practices. The interactive Adaptation Forum 2011 gathers adaptation practitioners at global, regional, national, and sub-national levels. The format is a diverse range of plenary and keynote sessions, panel discussions, roundtables, thematic side events, market place, photo and poster exhibitions and film festival. Sessions will be facilitated by eminent climate scientists, adaptation experts and development planners from the region.

  11. Caribbean Regional Writeshop to Support Developing Country Publications on Adaptation to Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction

    Through this writeshop, participants produce a peer-review, publishable quality article and gain enhanced awareness of the process of writing papers for academic journals. These skills will allow their work to be eligible for incorporation into publications of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other high-level scientific bodies and consequently inform policy making on key issues of risk and climate. The writeshop involves one-on-one work with facilitators to provide guidance and supplemental training on academic writing skills and argumentation, in order to help new authors reach a standard of writing suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals. It targets young scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and others from the Caribbean who are working in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction.

  12. E-learning Course on Negotiating Climate Change Finance

    This course aims to provide the skills and knowledge needed for participation in multilateral negotiations, in particular in the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It aims to enable those working in relation to climate change finance, with respect to diplomatic engagement, public and/or private sector activities, to work efficiently towards finding agreement on pertinent policy making challenges. The course shall enable participants to enhance their understanding of the key objectives and instruments of international climate finance, the multilateral policy framework and key negotiation issues crucial to reaching a post-2012 agreement, particularly with respect to the forthcoming negotiations in Durban later this year (UNFCCC COP17).
