  1. E-learning Course - Introduction to a Green Economy: Concepts, Principles and Applications

    This e-learning course provides interested stakeholders from government, business, civil society and academia with an introduction to green economy. Participants will learn about different concepts and facets of the green economy, as well as global, national and sector-specific challenges and opportunities to advance low-carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive development. Additionally, participants will begin to develop basic skills for applying the green economy concept in a real world economic, policy and/or personal context. The course pedagogy is adapted to professionals in full-time work. The estimated average workload is seven hours per week over a 6 week period.

  2. Knowledge Exchange Forum 2012

  3. Writeshop on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction

    This writeshop aims to support young scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and others from Africa who are working in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction in gaining enhanced awareness of the process of writing papers for academic journals and producing a peer-review, publishable quality article. It involves one-on-one work with facilitators to provide guidance and training on academic writing skills and argumentation. The Writeshop lasts 5 days. The first day includes plenary sessions and the second day, small group discussions and independent work. Participants are then required to briefly present their articles. The third day includes an optional field trip. During the fourth and fifth day, the new versions of the documents are written in collaboration with the facilitators.

  4. A Low-Carbon City: Green Growth for Local Governments in Asia-Pacific Workshop

    This workshop aims to increase knowledge and awareness on Green Growth and Eco-Efficiency to enhance sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region; to identify key challenges and recognize best practices and lessons learned to implement a green growth strategy and low-carbon/eco-efficiency plans locally; and to have specific action plans for local implementation and follow-up of lessons learned. It provides: i) lectures on Green Growth and Eco-Efficiency concepts through various good practices at the local, national, and international levels; ii) an opportunity for local authorities to have better understanding of Green Growth policy measures by introducing eco-efficiency indicators; and iii) a venue for further city-to-city cooperation in implementing local action plans for Green Growth.

  5. Third Workshop on Water and Climate Change Adaptation in Transboundary Basins

    This workshop brings together persons from all over the world, engaged in activities on water and adaptation to climate change and variability, in particular in transboundary basins. The workshop focuses on the following issues: 1) economic aspects of adaptation to climate change, 2) selecting and implementing adaptation measures, 3) integrating the different spatial and governance levels, 4) vulnerability assessment in transboundary basins, 5) the ecosystem approach, 6) integrating sectoral interests into adaptation strategy.

  6. Workshop on Developing Results-based Action to Strengthen Human Resources, Learning and Skills to Advance Green, Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development in the Dominican Republic

    This National Workshop is held within the framework of the UN CC:Learn pilot project in the Dominican Republic. It provides an opportunity to discuss and define the priority actions with concerned government sectors and other interested organizations. Specific workshop objectives include to: 1) enhance skills of participants to design results-based action to enhance climate-change related learning; 2) identify learning needs and sustainable learning approaches in selected priority sectors; 3) develop specific learning interventions/workshops responding to professional priority needs; 4) develop action to strengthen institutional capacities to delivery climate change learning through general education, TVET, and public education; and 5) explore modalities and partnerships for implementing the proposed action. The Workshop brings together key actors from government and organizations outside of government.

  8. Wadden Sea Climate Training

    This training gathers 21 young people from 15 European Countries to examine the environmental, cultural and socio-economic impacts of climate change on the Wadden Sea ecosystem, and use their experiences and acquired knowledge to encourage their peers to become environmentally responsible citizens. By visiting the mudflats, saltmarshes and other ecosystems of the Langeness island in the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer National Park (Germany) and surrounding areas, the participants are expected to learn about the challenges facing the Wadden Sea and sustainable development in this complex region. A major emphasis of the training is peer-to-peer learning and networking. Together, the participants will share and develop ideas to respond to the complex issues and communicate their experiences through social media, newspapers and film.

  11. Workshop on the Role of National Development Banks in Mobilizing International Climate Finance

    This workshop aims to help increase awareness from a broad range of national development banks, local financial institutions and other key stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges of international climate finance. Furthermore, the event provides for a platform to discuss: 1) opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the Green Climate Fund from the perspective of national development Banks and local financial institutions; 2) the role of treasuries and development banks in the coordination and leverage of international climate finance and its blending with national, public and private funding; 3) experiences with international climate funds and market mechanisms and recommendations to improve their effectiveness; and 4) recommendations to international fora and processes such as the Rio+ 20 conference in June 2012 and the Climate Change Conference in December 2012.

  16. Sixth International Conference on Community Based Adaptation: Communicating Community Based Adaptation

    This conference aims to share and consolidate the latest developments in community based adaptation (CBA) planning and practices in different sectors and countries in Asia and globally, and disseminate this knowledge more broadly. Specific objectives are to: bring together different stakeholders and practitioners to share and discuss knowledge of CBA planning and practices, from different parts of the developing world and in particular Vietnam; capture the latest experiences and learning from CBA planning and practices; enhance the capacity of practitioners to help those most vulnerable to climate change to improve their livelihoods; share lessons learnt, thus facilitating the integration of climate change into national and international development programmes; and, disseminate lessons learnt at the workshop through workshop proceedings and an immediate workshop summary. The event consists of a three-day field visit to CBA projects in different ecosystems in Vietnam followed by three days of interactive discussions.

  18. Blended Learning Program on Science and Policy of Climate Change

    This 12-week program on science and policy of climate change consists of four learning modules spread over three weeks on 1) science of climate change, 2) impacts of climate change, 3) coping with climate change, and 4) action and political economy. The duration of each module is 20-25 learning hours. The program is delivered through a blended learning format comprising video-recorded lectures, academic articles and multimedia among others. The program targets development practitioners, policy makers, the corporate sector, graduates and mid-level professionals.

  21. E-Learning Course on Tapping Carbon Market for Energy Efficiency Projects in Public Buildings

    This e-course provides a brief overview of carbon finance concepts and methodologies for energy efficiency programs/projects in buildings and discusses the challenges of implementing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in the sector. It also addresses the role of Designated National Authorities (DNAs) in promoting carbon finance for public buildings. The course aims to equip different stakeholders with technical and program management skills, tools and knowledge on the how to simulate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimate in public building using the CDM methodology developed by the World Bank and submitted to UNFCCC for approval. This course is one component of the program “Climate Friendly Energy Efficiency Policies across South East Europe” which is a capacity building program focusing on Energy Efficiency in South East Europe (SEE).

  25. Workshop on Climate Change Mitigation with Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples: Practices, Lessons Learned and Prospects

    This workshop helps participants identify, compile and analyze relevant issues related to climate change mitigation by local communities and indigenous peoples. In particular it aims to: reflect the range of perspectives concerning indigenous peoples/local communities and climate change responses; support the build-up of understanding and peer-reviewed literature in the field of indigenous peoples, local communities and climate change mitigation; compile data and grey literature that are relevant for understanding climate change mitigation involving local and indigenous knowledge holders, local populations, and developing country scientists; support Indigenous peoples’, local communities’ and developing country scientists’ engagement and research in international climate dialogues; provide policy makers with relevant information on the mitigation potential of indigenous peoples and local communities; and outline a publication in a Special Issue of a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
