This workshop aims to promote and support Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activities in countries currently hosting fewer than 10 registered projects, in line with the decisions of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol on improving the regional and sub-regional distribution of CDM projects. The workshop is a platform for participants to cross-share best practices and key lessons from their experiences to date, enhance their knowledge on the latest CDM modalities, and discuss technical, financial, and policy issues specific to their projects with the resource persons. In addition to plenary and breakout sessions, one-on-one project consultations with interested project developers will be offered. The workshop is the third of a series targeting participation from countries with less than 10 registered CDM projects in Asia and the Pacific with focus on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The aim of this meeting is to provide Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Designated National Authorities (DNAs) from the Asian region with the training they require to function effectively.

This workshop aims to support advancing understanding and practice on: decision making on national mitigation priorities; what role Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) can play and establishing NAMAs as a policy instrument; the kind of support is needed in terms of investments and finance, policy, and Measuring Reporting and Verification (MRV). Proposed outputs include: a publication on lessons learned from NAMA implementation and commonalities and contrasts of NAMA experiences; the elaboration of examples of NAMAs and related MRV/infrastructure/ institutional mechanisms to share; minimum requirements for effective implementation of NAMAs – institutions and capacities; decision trees/templates showing how countries can establish priorities and advance implementation; enhanced knowledge on associated tools and resources for NAMA decision making and implementation; identification of research and capacity development needs for effective planning around agriculture; and ways forward for effective NAMA planning. The meeting is by invitation only.

This workshop provides hands-on training for the Latin America and Caribbean region on vulnerability and adaptation assessment. The event is organized by the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE).

This summer course focuses on the theme “Understanding and adapting to climate change in mountain areas”. It aims at: 1) enhancing awareness about climate change impacts and development challenges in mountain regions at the international/regional levels and about the related international processes; and 2) promoting capacity building for politicians, scientists, and practitioners as regards to climate change adaptation in mountains and negotiations in international fora. It is open to a maximum of 30 professionals who are part of the national delegations to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

This training event is designed as a high learning executive workshop that helps participants to develop skills and knowledge to address environmental and climate change impacts on cities. Participants get acquainted with the tools and methodologies developed through the implementation of Local Agenda 21 programmes, the Sustainable Cities Program, Cities and Climate Change Initiative and the Global Compact Cities Programme, their evolution and their application by local governments in order to build sustainable and climate resilient cities.

This course covers essential aspects of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies and discusses how they can contribute to green growth strategies. The overall objective of this course is to provide a better understanding of the policy instruments used to promote the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies in developing countries. It begins with an overview of the range of policy tools available, including price instruments (e.g., feed-in tariffs), quantity instruments (e.g., tradable renewable energy certificates) and standards (e.g., building codes for energy efficiency). The course ends with a discussion on how these policies can be integrated into overall green growth strategies at the national level.

Drawing upon the recommendations of the Secretary General’s High Level Panel on Global Sustainability, this side event brings together decision-makers and experts to discuss approaches and challenges of strengthening human resources and skills to advance green, low emission and climate resilient development. Following introductory statement by panelists, an open discussion will focus on identifying opportunities for action at the national and international levels to foster a strategic approach to learning and skills development that advances a green transition, including possible action at Rio and beyond Rio.

In this webinar, Dr. Daniel M. Kammen, Professor of Energy Policy at the University of California, Berkeley and former World Bank Chief Technical Specialist for Sustainable Energy, explores a range of policy instruments used to support the deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies across the world. These technologies are essential elements of low carbon development strategies. By means of examples, Dr. Kammen stresses the importance of smart analysis and energy systems modeling tools, which are essential for planning and decision-making. He also invites participants to share their views and experiences on energy and policy design.

This course aims to promote the transition towards a low-carbon economy, through the financing and investment in energy efficiency projects, specifically in buildings. In particular it seeks to enhance financial institutions capacity to finance these kinds of projects, showing the potential opportunities of business in the area of energy efficiency in buildings, in order to increase investment flows in the financial sector.

This course introduces climate change as an integral part of sustainability, its impacts and main strategies for mitigation and adaptation. It offers specific practices to manage urban design and environmental infrastructure, in particular energy, transport, housing and water. The course addresses: vulnerability assessment (week 1), mitigation strategies (week 2) adaptation strategies (week 3), and local climate change plans (week 4). By the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to prepare local climate change plans, which address the global challenges yet focus on concrete local actions.

This event is an international trade fair and conference for emissions trading, carbon abatement solutions and clean technologies. It provides insights into national situation reports, latest knowledge and trends, and discusseses links between trading and other international policies and developments.
