  2. Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas

    This forum will bring together key disaster risk reduction (DRR) stakeholders throughout the Americas and will be a participative space for knowledge sharing that promotes the planning, monitoring and collective decision making and strategy, as well as actions to implement the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), all with linkages to international and national climate change adaptation efforts. The Fourth Session is co-organized by the UNISDR Regional Office for the Americas (UNISDR - Americas) and Ecuador's Secretariat of Risk Management and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), UN Development Programme (UNDP) and participation planned by subregional DRR organizations. The forum will feature a high level panel on mainstreaming DRR and climate change adaptation in public policies, as well as four thematic sessions on: risk reduction and special segments of society; DDR, climate change and the development agenda; governance and public policies on risk reduction; regional consultation surrounding the new framework for DDR post-2015 (HFA2).

  6. 5th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

    This ministerial conference aims to discuss the challenges that the warming continent is experiencing because of climate change and other risk drivers. Last year, 37 countries in the region experienced at least one major disaster event including droughts, floods and heat waves, affecting millions. The disucssion will be used to inform the negotiations for the new global agreement on disaster risk reduction to succeed the existing Hyogo Framework for Action.

  7. Central Asia Climate Knowledge Forum

The event will include a high-level roundtable – National and Regional Climate Resilience Program Design for Central Asia – among policy makers from Central Asian countries and development partners.

    This webinar will introduce stakeholders to the new Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) carbon accounting methodology for sustainable grassland management.The methodology was developed by FAO , the Chinese Academy of Agriculture Science (CAAS), ICRAF, and the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, to quantify emission reductions from a range of practices, including improved grazing management, to restore degraded grasslands.

  16. City Creditworthiness Academy

    This workshop aims to discuss ways to improve municipal finances and access to capital to achieve low-carbon development, and the need for a “climate lens” in developing capital investment plans. Participants include mayors, city officials and technical experts representing 15 cities and provinces from 12 countries across Asia. It will help officials from subnational governments and public enterprises to develop an action plan to improve their creditworthiness and access to finance for climate-related infrastructure. A broader City Creditworthiness Program will assist cities in implementing the action plan.

  17. High-Level Workshop on National Adaptation Plan Development in Africa

    This workshop has for objective: improving the understanding of the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) process; taking stock of the existing guidance, tools and methods relevant to developing NAPs; assessing countries' current progress on their respective NAP processes; exchanging lessons learned and experiences; and exchanging information on the mechanisms and options for financing NAPs. Ministers also learned about the support available through National Adaptation Plan-Gobal Support Programme (NAP-GSP) and its partners, such as the Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), for assisting their countries in the NAP process.

  25. Food Security and Climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia

    This online discussion, called The future of food Security and climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia: scenarios, outlooks and challenges in the next 30 years aims at exploring the current, foreseeable and likely relationships between climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and food security in the three countries and has been set up by FAO’s Economics and Policy Innovations for Climate-Smart Agriculture (EPIC) programme in collaboration with the CGIAR programme on Climate Change, and Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and with support from the European Commission.
