    This e-learning course aims to inform policy planners and climate change practitioners on the rationale behind emissions trading, how emissions trading schemes work, their key design elements, and the key roles and decisions affecting emissions-trading governance. It provides practical knowledge and skills to appreciate the rationale for using market-based instruments in the context of greenhouse gas mitigation; understand the key principles and design elements for emissions trading schemes; discuss critically the important trade-offs inherent in emissions trading schemes design and governance and learn from design and implementation experiences of existing emissions trading schemes around the world.

  2. Webinar on Engaging the Private Sector in Fast Start NAMAs

  7. Food Security and Climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia

    This online discussion, called The future of food Security and climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia: scenarios, outlooks and challenges in the next 30 years aims at exploring the current, foreseeable and likely relationships between climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and food security in the three countries and has been set up by FAO’s Economics and Policy Innovations for Climate-Smart Agriculture (EPIC) programme in collaboration with the CGIAR programme on Climate Change, and Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and with support from the European Commission. The discussion aims to engage in a constructive dialogue everyone interested in climate change and food security with a specific interest and competence on Malawi, Zambia and/or Viet Nam.

  14. UNDP African Workshop on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories

    This workshop will address common challenges related to the development of a national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, a cornerstone of a country’s reporting obligations to the UNFCCC. This will aim to fill the gaps in the data colelction processes in African countries. The workshop will consist a one-day joint plenary and two days of concurrent workstreams. The Day 1 plenary will establish common understandings and provide the participants the opportunity to become better informed of the UNFCCC decisions on Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and Biennial Update Reports, as well as introduction to a number of tools available for GHG reporting. On Day 2 and 3, participants will have discussions and training on topics such as institutional arrangements, quality assurance and quality control, archiving, remote sensing, forest inventories and land classification, among others.

  15. Carbon Monitoring in th Clean Development Mechanism (CDM): Afforestation et Reforestation Projects

    This e-learning course presents the methods for carbon monitoring in afforestation and reforestation projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and includes three modules:

    - Module 1: Preparing for Project Monitoring (reviews key concepts, such as carbon pools, project stratification and boundary, sampling design and species data);

    - Module 2: Monitoring Forest Carbon Stocks (how to measure various forest carbon pools);

    - Module 3: Monitoring Project Emissions and Leakage (explores sources of project emissions and leakage).

    Participants are expected to devote a total of 8 hours to complete this course. Target audience include project developers, managers and staff working on afforestation/reforestation projects and on carbon finance.

    This online course entiteld Climate Change Diplomacy: Negotiating Effectively under the UNFCCC develops participants’ understanding of the climate change policy framework, by building an appreciation of the science, causes and impacts of climate change, the history of the policy making process and the UNFCCC framework, and also considers the pertinent challenges currently facing diplomats and international decision makers in making progress with what is currently on the negotiating table. The course takes a close look at the negotiations to-date and considers the hot topics for negotiators as we move towards establishing a new global agreement on climate change by 2015. The course takes a close look at gender in the negotiations and also the specific interests of parties who are most vulnerable to impacts of climate change.
