  2. ITU Green Standards Week

    The Green Standards Week aims to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using information and communication technology (ICT) standards to build a green economy. The event also provides Ministers and senior representatives from the ICT industry the opportunity to exchange views on how ICTs can help in the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the run-up to the 17th Conference of the Parties at the end of the year. The Week  includes: a Workshop on Methodologies for Environmental Impact Assessment of ICT; a Workshop on Moving to a Green Economy through ICT Standards; and a Workshop on Submarine Cables for Ocean/Climate Monitoring and Disaster Warning: Science, Engineering, Business and Law.

  3. Summer School on Climate Impacts Modelling for Developing Countries: Water, Agriculture and Health

    This summer school aims to aid scientists in developing countries achieve a working knowledge of climate change impacts modeling. It provides lectures and laboratory classes on: the use and uncertainty of the main observational datasets available from remote sensing to drive impacts models; the use and uncertainty of short-range to seasonal forecast products and climate model data from major numerical weather prediction and climate centres including the IPCC assessment climate integrations; impacts modelling in the three target sectors of agriculture, water and health including classes using open; and source models in each sector.

  5. E-learning Course on Low Carbon Development

    This course introduces learners to climate change mitigation, explores the concepts surrounding low carbon development planning on an economy-wide basis, and takes a detailed look at what this means in the power and transport sectors and for household electricity use. It also discusses the development of reference and low carbon scenarios out to 2030 and beyond, the stakeholders that need to be involved and the data that is required to develop credible projections. The course has five modules: (i) Introduction to Low Carbon Development Planning; (ii) Overview for Policymakers; (iii) Power; (iv) Household; (v) Transport.

  6. E-learning Course on Public Procurement of Energy Efficiency Services

    The e-course consists of seven modules on public procurement of energy efficiency services presenting key concepts and providing opportunities to apply and discuss them. All modules use multimedia presentations and offer selected readings. Quizzes, research exercises and case studies help to broaden participants’ understanding of the topics in a pro-active way. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: identify opportunities for Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) in the public sector of their country, define the overall procurement process for ESPCs in a public agency, document case studies on specific country experiences using the ESPC approach, identify how to address the key procurement issues related to the ESPC approach and develop a "roadmap" for employing the ESPC approach and selecting energy service providers to implement energy efficiency projects.

  12. Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Meeting

    This meeting convenes representative of the 13 Pacific Island Countries involved in the Pacific Adaption to Climate Change (PACC) Project, to review and discuss progress and to share experiences and lessons learned. The PACC is implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) in partnership with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). It provides funds and support for national climate change adaptation projects in the different areas of coastal management, food production and security and water resources management.

  14. Global Dialogue on Scaling up Mitigation Actions in Cities

    This dialogue aims to showcase best practices of cities in scaling up mitigation actions and creating low or even zero carbon cities.
