  1. Wadden Sea Climate Training

    This training gathers 21 young people from 15 European Countries to examine the environmental, cultural and socio-economic impacts of climate change on the Wadden Sea ecosystem, and use their experiences and acquired knowledge to encourage their peers to become environmentally responsible citizens. By visiting the mudflats, saltmarshes and other ecosystems of the Langeness island in the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer National Park (Germany) and surrounding areas, the participants are expected to learn about the challenges facing the Wadden Sea and sustainable development in this complex region. A major emphasis of the training is peer-to-peer learning and networking. Together, the participants will share and develop ideas to respond to the complex issues and communicate their experiences through social media, newspapers and film.

  2. Workshop on Building Resilience for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Agriculture Sector

    This workshop considers the various types risks to which agriculture is prone, the incidence climate change is expected to have on them, and various risk management strategies, depending on types of risks, and the country in question. It examines technical issues and case studies in order to determine how addressing various types of risks and vulnerabilities, including plant pests and diseases, animal health, socio-economic vulnerabilities can contribute to prepare agriculture for future climate induced risks and uncertainties.

The Forum includes matchmaking and deal facilitation sessions where carbon project developers can showcase their projects to investors and carbon buyers.

  4. Workshop on the Role of National Development Banks in Mobilizing International Climate Finance

    This workshop aims to help increase awareness from a broad range of national development banks, local financial institutions and other key stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges of international climate finance. Furthermore, the event provides for a platform to discuss: 1) opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the Green Climate Fund from the perspective of national development Banks and local financial institutions; 2) the role of treasuries and development banks in the coordination and leverage of international climate finance and its blending with national, public and private funding; 3) experiences with international climate funds and market mechanisms and recommendations to improve their effectiveness; and 4) recommendations to international fora and processes such as the Rio+ 20 conference in June 2012 and the Climate Change Conference in December 2012.

  6. E-Learning Course on Carbon Monitoring in CDM Afforestation/Reforestation Projects

  8. Online Course on Climate Change: Risks and Opportunities for the Finance Sector

  9. Sixth International Conference on Community Based Adaptation: Communicating Community Based Adaptation

    This conference aims to share and consolidate the latest developments in community based adaptation (CBA) planning and practices in different sectors and countries in Asia and globally, and disseminate this knowledge more broadly. Specific objectives are to: bring together different stakeholders and practitioners to share and discuss knowledge of CBA planning and practices, from different parts of the developing world and in particular Vietnam; capture the latest experiences and learning from CBA planning and practices; enhance the capacity of practitioners to help those most vulnerable to climate change to improve their livelihoods; share lessons learnt, thus facilitating the integration of climate change into national and international development programmes; and, disseminate lessons learnt at the workshop through workshop proceedings and an immediate workshop summary. The event consists of a three-day field visit to CBA projects in different ecosystems in Vietnam followed by three days of interactive discussions.

  11. Blended Learning Program on Science and Policy of Climate Change

    This 12-week program on science and policy of climate change consists of four learning modules spread over three weeks on 1) science of climate change, 2) impacts of climate change, 3) coping with climate change, and 4) action and political economy. The duration of each module is 20-25 learning hours. The program is delivered through a blended learning format comprising video-recorded lectures, academic articles and multimedia among others. The program targets development practitioners, policy makers, the corporate sector, graduates and mid-level professionals.

  12. Green Economy Seminar: Greening Homes in the UNECE Region - Case Studies, Actions and Financing

  14. E-Learning Course on Tapping Carbon Market for Energy Efficiency Projects in Public Buildings

    This e-course provides a brief overview of carbon finance concepts and methodologies for energy efficiency programs/projects in buildings and discusses the challenges of implementing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in the sector. It also addresses the role of Designated National Authorities (DNAs) in promoting carbon finance for public buildings. The course aims to equip different stakeholders with technical and program management skills, tools and knowledge on the how to simulate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission estimate in public building using the CDM methodology developed by the World Bank and submitted to UNFCCC for approval. This course is one component of the program “Climate Friendly Energy Efficiency Policies across South East Europe” which is a capacity building program focusing on Energy Efficiency in South East Europe (SEE).

    This e-course discusses how cities and urban regions can lead climate actions and mainstream climate mitigation and adaptation into their development plans. Its overall objective is to encourage city leaders and decision makers to undertake climate actions suitable to local needs. Each lesson includes multimedia and interactive learning elements, links to some of the most helpful documents, web sites, city networks and international sources of expertise.   18. Workshop on Climate Change Mitigation with Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples: Practices, Lessons Learned and Prospects

    This workshop helps participants identify, compile and analyze relevant issues related to climate change mitigation by local communities and indigenous peoples. In particular it aims to: reflect the range of perspectives concerning indigenous peoples/local communities and climate change responses; support the build-up of understanding and peer-reviewed literature in the field of indigenous peoples, local communities and climate change mitigation; compile data and grey literature that are relevant for understanding climate change mitigation involving local and indigenous knowledge holders, local populations, and developing country scientists; support Indigenous peoples’, local communities’ and developing country scientists’ engagement and research in international climate dialogues; provide policy makers with relevant information on the mitigation potential of indigenous peoples and local communities; and outline a publication in a Special Issue of a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

  19. Workshop on Operationalizing Targets of the Government of Vietnam's Policy Agenda for Agricultural Mitigation: Roadmap, Implementation, Institutions and Costs

    This workshop aims at addressing challenges in agricultural mitigation, potential mitigation options, and government policies in Vietnam. It is informed by an International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) study that assessed emissions from the production of key food crops in Vietnam and the potential for alternative mitigation options in agriculture. It shows that paddy rice is the key to pro-poor agricultural mitigation, and that the largest mitigation and economic benefits emerge from alternative seeding approaches.

  20. Workshop on Improving the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development - A Deep Dive into Governance Issues and the Rio+20 Zero Draft

  22. Rio Preparation Forum: Opportunities and Challenges for a Green Economy
