  1. Training Workshop on Payments for Ecosystem Services and REDD+

    This workshop aims to provide African policy makers, private sector representatives as well as those from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with an increased understanding of the opportunities available from payments for ecosystem services (PES) and REDD+. The workshop also highlights the potential of PES to create incentives for moving towards a practice of natural resource management that takes the true values of carbon, water and biodiversity environmental services into account.

  2. Global Dialogue on Scaling up Mitigation Actions in Cities

    This dialogue aims to showcase best practices of cities in scaling up mitigation actions and creating low or even zero carbon cities. Topics to be discussed include: cities' contribution to carbon emissions and climate change; cities' role in transition to a low carbon economy, and the policy and regulatory tools available to cities in this regard; experiences with scaling up renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives within cities; finance and investment issues in mitigation actions by cities, including carbon market mechanisms; public transport investments and urban density; role of leadership in driving urban agendas. This session is part of the global series dialogue series on climate change - The Road to Durban: The World Bank Institute’s Global Dialogues on Climate Change.

  3. Integrated Regional Workshop on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (Asia and Pacific)

    This workshop is one of three integrated regional workshops for UN country teams (UNCTs) on mainstreaming environment sustainability, climate change and disaster risk reduction in UN country programming. With the aim of providing support to the 2011 UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) roll-out countries, the workshops take place in: Nairobi (June 20-24), Panamá (July 11-15), and Bangkok (July 25-29). The workshops are organized by the UNDG Task Team on Environmental Sustainability, Climate Change and Rio+20, in cooperation with the UN System Staff College (UNSSC), and the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI). Support is provided by UNITAR (through UN CC:Learn), UNDP (through BDP and BCPR), UNEP, and ISDR.

  6. Seminar on Climate Change and Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: State of Knowledge, Risks and Opportunities

  8. 6th Symposium on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change

    This symposium aims to move forward the agenda on using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to monitor climate change, mitigate and adapt to its effects and, in this light, identify future requirements for the United Nations Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ITU)’s related work – including standardization of ICT equipment and networks as well as development activities. Topics to be discussed include mitigation and adaptation to climate change, e-waste, disaster planning, cost-effective ICT technologies, methodologies for the environmental impact assessment of ICTs, challenges and opportunities in the transition to a green and resource efficient economy.

    The Second Forum on Climate Change in the Near East Region is dedicated to the theme “climate change, agriculture and food security” and has the objective of enhancing Member Countries’ capacities to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and variability on agriculture and food security. The Forum is intended to take stock of the countries’ knowledge and gaps, to provide an opportunity for exchange of experiences and to identify specific needs for support and regional cooperation. The event is expected to come up with practical recommendations for follow-up actions to address the identified gaps, including national and regional project profiles, as well as a declaration delineating commitment and a roadmap for implementation of these recommendations.
